a2b – Crotos, Georgia to Azerbaijan

I’ll keep this short and simple; if you want more details just click on to Joachim’s blog.

Since attending the reception at the Tblisi town hall, things have moved on for the Crotos riders. Nine days and four posts later they are on the edge of the Caspian Sea.

A crowd of about 50 riders accompanied the tour group out of Tblisi with local racing cyclists and the ambassadors from Lithuania and Poland joining them. The next objective was the Gombori Pass, the highest point on the tour so far, which they crossed the 6th Apri without coment other than to say the temperature was +6 degrees C. On the 8th they met a group from Germany doing a similar tour, Mit Helm un kurzen Hosen [I don’t know if that is the real name of the group or something the writer has just made up] – their website is here – and the following day crossed into Azerbaijan.

Azeri people are more like Turkish people than the Georgians in that they are open, friendly and the popular drink is tea rather than vodka [less zig-zagging so better progress?]. In Azerbaijan the landscape begins to change and the greens of Europe are replaced with the desert colours of Central Asia. After the crossing from Baku to Turkmenistan the flavour of the ride might change with the landscape.
